EVOs

My roommate and his now-wife got back from their honeymoon and decided they were going to jump onto the EVO 4G train after seeing that the rest of us in the house have one.  We were all really proud and they are a lot freer now that they don’t have to worry about going over their minutes or text messaging limits like they used to.  We also realized that we don’t call land lines often anymore at all.  The plans we have have free calling to any mobile phone number regardless of carrier and our bills all show that we use less than 40 minutes a month talking to people who haven’t made the technological jump to mobile telephony.

With my roommate’s wife spending a few days here before she leaves to go back to medical school, the house is a lot chillier than usual.  She likes it cold at night whereas my roommates and I have come to an understanding that it could stand to be a little warmer in the house in the evening lest I have to find every blanket we have in the house.  Because she is a girl, however, her preferences trump mine and the house remains colder.

We saw Scott Pilgrim this week with one of our friends who really wanted to see it.  It turns out it was really good and well done.  Neither my roommate nor I were sure we were going to like it as much as our friend seemed he would, but we all really had a good time watching it and laughing at it.  I would also like to point out that it takes place in Canada.  That was the source of a lot of good jokes both on screen and after the movie ended.  Some of the people at work now call me Maple Leaf.

Wedding

We had the wedding of two of our good friends yesterday.  It was a beautiful ceremony and the reception/party afterwards was epic.  Everyone had a really good time and laughed a lot.  The bride’s mom thought two other guys and I were wedding crashers because we went up after the meal and changed into t-shirts and athletic shorts for the dancing portion.  It turns out suits and ties are hot when you are trying to get your groove on on the dance floor.

Our fourth and final roommate flew in for the wedding so for the first time in over two months we were all together again in the same room.  It was a little bit of the best thing to happen in a long time.  It’s been too long for him to be away.

We were out of the state for a conference that was taking place in a small town.  The hotel we were staying in was not fantastic, but the housekeepers left two Andes mints, and apple and a (free) bottle of water on the night stand.  It was really nice to have that to come forward to in the evening.  All in all the conference went really well and people really enjoyed the talk we gave.

At the end of our conference, we had a great night at the hotel where the final program was hanging out afterwards with the people who we remember in the area.   Hopefully it won’t take us this long to get back next time

We are all trying to quickly get back into the work mindset after a great weekend and a fun conference this past week.

Froyo

The three of us updated our Evos to the latest version of the operating system codenamed Froyo.  It was kind of funny that the feature we were most looking forward to was the new flashlight app that allows the LEDs that are the camera flash to light up in three different intensities.  It’s a great idea and a well implemented flashlight on an incredibly powerful phone.  It’s the small things, people.

We had our second housewarming this week with about 20 – 25 people.  It was great and we had a lot of kids running around having a good time with all our NERF guns.  Basically it turns out that all you need to entertain a ton of kids is Kung Fu Panda and a ton of NERF guns all around your house.  We are still finding the darts everywhere, but that is no different than how things usually are around our place.  After an intense NERF battle, we will find the darts absolutely everywhere.  Those things are deviously small and can find their way into absolutely any space that is big enough for a dart.

This week we had more Aussies in town and we took them out to one of our favorite restaurants for some drinks and food.  We had a great time and they talked to a lot of people on the phone for us because they have fun accents.  I kind of felt bad for them because they wanted nothing more than to hang out and talk with us and one of the guys kept putting them on the phone with his family members because he wanted them to talk to some foreigners.  It turns out accents make people laugh.
